Olympia- May 20th 2007:

Taking advantage of the Opportunityof the Olympic Truce International forum taking place in Olympia (Greece)from May 18 to 21, Joel Bouzou, President, has confirmed the launching and the objectives of “Peace and Sport, Organisation pour la Paix et le Sport,” a worldwide Initiative based in Monaco under the High Patronage of his Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations,“Peace and Sport” intends to lead actions all round the world in favor of the establishment of sustainable peace, on the basis of its values, namely independence, neutrality and perseverance.

Peace and Sport will strive to convince Governments, International Organizations (such as International Sports Federation and National Olympic Committees), and Private Businesses of the significance of sport in preventing and solving some of the problems linked to Warfare state.

Prince Albert declared this April in Beijing during the General Association of the International

Sport Federation (GAISF):

“Even more than an Education, Sport is mixing people for a better World. Sport is finally just more than Sport, Sport can contribute to Peace. This is why, as some others, we have made our own contribution from Monaco.”

“Peace and Sport” will use it natural relation-ships with Governments, Sport Governance, and key companies to fund concrete local projects on specific post conflict zones. “Peace and Sport” will bring rules where there are no rules left,” says President Joel Bouzou, former Olympic medallist, Modern pentathlon World champion, General Secretary of the UIPM and Executive Board Member of the World Olympians Association (WOA).

“Peace and Sport” will also involve role model Olympians to touch and attract the youth from these zones to sport, and show them that sport is more than just a game, that it can bring people together in Peace and Harmony.”

President Joel Bouzou has built the Organization Peace and Sport on his experience of “Together Through Sports, a French initiative that he created in 1991 and developed with the World Olympians Association and the International Olympic Committee from 1996 to 2006.

Joel Bouzou explains “through this experience we demonstrated that conceptualized action can bridge the Gap between two worlds which very often,
deliberately or otherwise, have tended to ignore each other and can help work towards better social cohesion.”

“Peace and Sport” will benefit the strategic support of partners to carry out these initiatives in the long terms:

“Crans Montana Forum,” an international organization which daily collaborates with governments of the whole world and has assisted them to progress on the paths of international cooperation for the last 20 years.

‘World Olympians Association” which will assist “Peace and Sport” for its local Projects by involving the Olympians to be used as role models in order to attract the kids to the programs.

Financial and logistics partners, which will be announced in the coming days.

“Peace and Sport” will organize a yearly International Forum, with the first edition to be held in Monaco from 28 to 30 of November 2007 under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

This Forum will assemble major partners, Heads of State and Government, International Sport Federations, International, National and Regional Organizations and private Companies having sports as their field of activity.
